Meet the RAs! - Andrea Hernandez

SIU Residence Life has some great things going on, and we want to showcase some of our proud moments on our blog. We also hope people considering working in RA, graduate assistant, or full-time positions with our department will take a minute to learn more about the things we are doing. As we recruit new Resident Assistants for the 2014-2015 year, we wanted to introduce a few of the talented individuals currently on our team. This profile features Andrea Hernandez, RA in Neely Hall.

1. What’s your name? Andrea Hernandez

2. Where are you from? Venezuela

3. What’s your major? Civil Engineering

4. What is the best program or event you’ve been to on campus? Tie-die Friday, casino night

5. What was the last book you read for fun? World War Z

6. What is your favorite thing about being an RA? Being able to make a difference in students' lives by providing them with a helping hand that is always there for them no matter what problems they are going through in life.

7. How else are you involved at SIU (in addition to being an RA)? I am a Saluki Shaker, member of Tau Beta Phi Engineering honor society, Latin American Student Association (LASA), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

8. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself with a job as a professional engineer in a private firm, successful and with a beautiful family.

9. What is your favorite quote? "Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." - Buddha

10. What do you do to unwind when you’re feeling stressed? I love to dance when I'm stressed, it puts me on a happy place and makes me forget about any issues I'm having.
