March OTM Winners!

SIU Residence Life has some great things going on, and we want to showcase some of our proud moments on our blog. We also hope people considering working in RA, graduate assistant, or full-time positions with our department will take a minute to learn more about the things we are doing. More information about our department, including position descriptions, application information, and graduate and full-time staff profiles can be found on our recruitment website.

This year February and April have been very busy, with lots of programs. March tends to be a little slower, since students leave for spring break and focus on preparing for midterms. Even with a slower pace, SIU Res Life still produced some great work. We would like to highlight a few of our top programs Of The Month, including two GLACURH Regional Winners.

Regional Winners

V for Voluptuous presented by the Residence Hall Association (Essence Moody, Coordinator) - Diversity Program Of The Month - nominated by Justin Schuch

"V for Voluptuous is a fashion show which highlights the fact that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. The show also works to raise funds and awareness for a local charity or initiative. After the tragic death of a student at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the 2014 V for Voluptuous Show was dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Amber Alert System of Illinois. With the tagline of "See Something, Say Something" posters, shirts, and marketing materials encouraged attendees to be an active member of their community and speak up if something seems out of place. The Residence Hall Association committed to donating $1.00 for each attendee up to 200 people for the Amber Alert System of Illinois. The show easily met their goal!"

"This program was inspired by a community need for further education on LGBTQ issues. Knowing that the typical lecture-style format wouldn't work for this building's residents, and wanting to find a new way to reach students, the planners opted for a Saturday morning brunch and chat format."

Campus Winners
