RA Appreciation Week April 9th-13th by Jill Powell

Resident Assistants at Southern Illinois University Carbondale mediate roommate conflicts, document policy violations, stay up late when students are in crisis, help individuals leave the building when fire alarms present themselves during unsatisfactory hours, and most importantly keep smiles on their faces throughout each of these events!

As a current Hall Director, I could not be more appreciative of all the work the RAs do on staff. During the week of April 9th – 13th, the Hall Directors wanted to take time to let the RAs know that their hard work has not gone unnoticed! (And only spending one week on making sure they feel appreciated, is not enough.) This week, the Hall Directors and Leadership Team have spent time providing opportunities and little acts of kindness that we hope will help motivate the staff through the rest of the semester.

·         Monday – Each staff member received a handwritten thank you note from his/her Hall Director
·         Tuesday – 1st Annual Res Life Dodgeball event with pizza from Primo’s

·         Wednesday – Each staff member received a kite door decoration to celebrate “Reaching New Heights”
·         Thursday – Thank You video was sent to each staff member
·         Friday – Each staff member received an “I Tweet @SIUCResLife” t-shirt

Again, there aren’t enough thank you notes, door decorations or dodgeball tournaments to express how grateful we are for the hard work that the RAs do throughout each semester.

On behalf of all the Hall Directors, we hope this week provided some time to rejuvenate and motivated you to make it through the rest of the semester! Keep rockin’ it out and good luck with the last of the projects and assignments within your academic course load!
