Saluki Rodeo Ride-Off by Brandon Macier

This year the Area Council at West Campus decided to do something a little different. Instead of a typical end of the year cookout, they decided to have a rodeo. The Saluki Rodeo Ride-Off became a cross-campus collaboration with the East Campus Area Council. In this event, students were able to go online and sign up to compete in a double mechanical bull riding contest. RA staff pitched in to provide volunteers and handle all food purchasing, prep, and cooking. Going with a traditional western theme, participants and spectators alike had the opportunity to wear T-shirts, hats, and bandanas provided by the event. Even the food evoked a western cadence including steak skewers and barbecued pork steaks. Since the event was open to students in all Housing areas, the Saluki Tram provided a shuttle service, taking student back and forth from East Campus.  Despite a rain delay of an hour, the program went off without a hitch bringing in upwards of 350 students. The hope is to bring the rodeo back next year so that our 2012-2013 residents can enjoy the same wild ride!
