Resident Assistant Spotlight - Zach Scruggs

Where I'm from: Trenton, TN

Major: Radio/Television (Specializing in Electronic Sports Media)

Best place to study on campus: My room

Favorite book: The Great Gatsby

Favorite food in the dining halls: Either meatball subs, chicken strips, or nacho bar

Favorite Local Restaurant: Primo's

Why I became an RA: All the great benefits that come with the job, opportunities to meet some fantastic people, and to become a leader.

My dream job: Becoming a sports analyst for ESPN while also doing play-by-play/color commentating work for CBS, FOX, NBC, etc.

Best advice for a new student on campus: Be kind and friendly to everyone on campus, and GO TO CLASS.

Student Leader Profile: Amanda Neuhouser

SIU Residence Life has some great things going on, and we want to showcase some of our proud moments on our blog. We also hope people considering working in RA, graduate assistant, or full-time positions with our department will take a minute to learn more about the things we are doing. We have some fantastic student leaders in University Housing, and we like to feature them on our blog. Today's post features Amanda Neuhouser. Amanda is the Birthday Chair for Cortland A, located in Kellogg Hall.

What is your favorite dining hall food? Waffles
What has been your favorite program or event on campus so far? MCMA RSO/SPC movie nights
Where do you hope to be (or what do you hope to be doing) in 2023? Living in LA working on a film for the Sundance Film Festival.
What is the best part about living in University Housing? Proximity to class
Where do you get your best studying done? In my room, at my desk, with my coffee
Why did you get involved with your community? To meet people and learn about my field early

Where is your favorite place to go off-campus?  International Grocery
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?  I would hope to have a studio job but I wouldn't mind working free lance on a lot of projects.
What do you like about being an RA?: Creating the community.

4.   What is your favorite dining hall food?  Chicken strips at Lentz
5.  Where is your favorite place to go off-campus?  The movie theatre in the mall
6.  Where do you see yourself in 10 years?  Reporting sports for a television news show (ESPN hopefully)
7.  What do you like about being an RA?  Building connections with people from all different majors and lifestyles

10.  How else are you involved at SIU (besides being an RA)?  I am a weekly sports anchor for River Region Evening Edition and I play four or five different Intramural Sports.

Meet the RAs! - Devin Kidd

2. Where are you from? Marion, IL
3. What's your major? Radio & Television News, and Digital Media
4. What's your favorite dining hall food? Tacos!
5. Where is your favorite place to go off-campus? Home! My home is only 25-30 minutes away.
6. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Ten years from now I see myself married, with children, and working as a successful news anchor and producer, hopefully in central Florida.
7. What do you like about being an RA? I really enjoy the social aspect of it. I've made so many friends and connected with so many residents.

9. Best study spot on campus? 3rd floor, Morris Library
10. How else are you involved at SIU (besides being an RA)? I produce and anchor our daily live student-produced newscast, River Region Evening Edition on WSIU-TV channel 8.
