As we recruit new Resident Assistants for the 2014-2015 year, we wanted to introduce a few of the talented individuals currently on our team. This profile features Christopher Weiss, RA in University Hall.
Where are you from: Batavia, IL. I did graduate from a community college first, Waubonsee Community College, with an A.A.S. degree in Automotive Technology. I am technically a senior (by credit hours) at SIU.
Major: Automotive Technology
Best Program I’ve Attended: I have got to say that Dawgs Nite Out are some of the best events that are held. There are loads of activities and free thing that you can get, depending on the event itself. (i.e. “Make you own sign”, Make your own poker chip, Casino Games, Free prizes, lazer tag, dodgeball, and more
Last book I read for fun: The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
Favorite thing about being an RA: The job itself has financial perks but besides that, I love being able to be a resource to my residents and to other students. I also have tons of opportunities to create events that are tailored to my residents and are fun for them.
Other involvement at SIU?: I am an active member of the Automotive Technology Organization (Auto Club) and the Saluki Formula SAE racing team.
Where do I see myself in 10 years: I have many opportunities presented to me by keeping my grades up and striving to become a better. As of right now, I am not sure where I will be. I do hope that at some time in the future that I become a manager or a “higher-up” in an automotive company, hopefully Ford.
Favorite Quote: I actually have this memorized…
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain; something of equal value must be lost.” – Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa
What do I do to unwind?: I actually unwind by being active. Whether that is working out, going to clubs, filling out scholarships or talking to other students in my field. Occasionally I’ll play games.
